Gas discovery in the Reggane Basin, Algeria
Hamburg, July 31, 2007 – The Repsol YPF, Sonatrach, RWE Dea and Edison Interna-tional consortium announces the discovery of gas from a deep well with a depth of 5,116 meters in the Reggane North region, Block 351c and 352.
The Reggane-6 (RG-6) well has tested gas from the Ordovicium formation for the first time. Together with the other reservoirs already found, the discovery in this geological formation adds to the region’s gas reserves. Extensive exploration and appraisal work is ongoing in the Reggane Basin.
RWE Dea has been active in Algeria since 2003. The Reggane North concession is being ex-ploited by the company in a consortium with Repsol YPF as operator, Sonatrach and Edison International, in which RWE Dea holds a 30 percent share. Since the establishment of the consortium, Reggane-6 is the fourth well to yield gas.
