OHM commences multi-client CSEM survey
Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping plc (OHM), in collaboration with TGS-NOPEC Geophysical
Company ASA of Norway, announced today the start-up
of a Multi-Client Controlled Source ElectroMagnetic
(CSEM) survey in the Norwegian Barents Sea.
The survey is designed and based on TGS-NOPEC's multi-client 2D and 3Dseismic database in the area, and is the first one conducted under a 'project by project” collaboration agreement between the two companies.
The CSEM method is used under given circumstances to identify highly resistive bodies like hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs in the subsurface, potentially helping to reduce exploration risk for oil and gas companies.
Final processed data and analysis are expected to be available in the summer of 2005.
The survey is supported by industry pre-funding.

Notes to Editors
OHM's survey method transmits an electromagnetic field into the earth, which is modified by the presence of subsurface resistive layers. These changes in the field are measured and the resulting data is processed to provide information on the resistive structure of the subsurface.
Because hydrocarbon accumulations are generally very resistive, this method can indicate the presence of oil and gas in deep water situations, and can detect and map the edges of such accumulations. This reduces the risk of drilling non-commercial exploration wells and can reduce the need for appraisal drilling, thereby creating considerable value for oil explorers.
